Women in Ophthalmology (WIO) is a global community dedicated to advancing leadership, mentorship, and professional growth for women in ophthalmology. Founded in 1979, WIO has grown from a small gathering of physicians into a nationally recognized organization supporting more than 1,500 members worldwide. Through education, advocacy, and its signature Summer Symposium, WIO empowers women at every stage of their careers and continues to shape the future of ophthalmology.

Women in Ophthalmology was founded to enhance and improve the professional environment for women ophthalmologists. WIO encourages diversity, impartiality, and economic parity, and strives to cultivate new opportunities for leadership, education, and public service in the field of ophthalmology for ourselves and future generations
