CME Information
In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by Medical Education Resources (MER and Women in Ophthalmology (WIO). MER is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Target Audience:
This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of ophthalmologists and trainees who are involved in clinical or surgical eye care, academic, leadership, research, and/or administration.
Program Overview:
The Summer Symposium provides solid scientific and practice management information to clinicians, researchers, and other professionals in the field. The conference has become the apex of WIO’s annual activities for its unique blend of medical education and leadership training. The event increases speaking opportunities for women, provides a comfortable woman-to-woman learning environment for the latest scientific breakthroughs, and fosters relationships between women from diverse backgrounds, professional environments, and life experiences.
2025 EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
- Describe, compare, and evaluate the best diagnostic and treatment options for important disease states in ophthalmology.
- Identify and evaluate how best to incorporate new surgical techniques into practice, efficiently manage surgical practice, and address difficult surgical cases and complications.
- Assess why diversity matters in ophthalmology and in ophthalmology leadership for optimal patient care and how to grow diversity in individual practice settings and in the greater ophthalmology community.
- Identify and apply current research findings to improve patient care.
- Identify and apply strategies for implementing clinical research into diverse practice settings.
- Implement key practice management skills such as medical staff training and retention, enhancing patient experience, and improving online branding and communication.
- Identify strategies to improve well-being including organizational skills, ergonomics and financial wellness.
- Apply necessary professional development skills such as negotiation, mentorship, communication, and crucial conversations for career growth.
- Address the unique challenges of academic medicine, private practice, and large multispecialty groups.
- Identify and address challenges of global ophthalmology initiatives and implement strategies to overcome these challenges.
